Trump says, ‘I was being ‘sarcastic’ when I made disinfectant comment’
Washington: US President Donald Trump now says he was being sarcastic – after asking his medical experts to look into the use of heat, light and disinfectants in curing Covid-19.
Trump’s new claim come more than 16 hours after Experts and officials countered Trump’s suggestion that heat, light and disinfectants could be potential treatments for COVID-19. The comments came after a White House briefing on the effects of sunlight and common cleaning supplies on the virus.
After White House officials shared findings on the effects of sunlight and common cleaning supplies on the coronavirus, the president suggested heat, light and disinfectant be looked into as possible treatments in a press conference on Thursday.
The CDC and FDA have since warned against using disinfectants as a treatment method. On Friday, Trump said he was “asking a question sarcastically to reporters” during the press conference.
“Under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body.” The maker of Lysol and Dettol released a statement after Trump suggested the possibility of injecting disinfectants as a COVID-19 treatment.
The maker of disinfectants Lysol & Dettol has also issued a press release telling people not to inject themselves with disinfectant after President Donald Trump suggested disinfectants and light could be injected into the human body to kill the coronavirus.
