Oxford University to start human trials for a coronavirus vaccine on Thursday

London: UK Government has announced the trials of corona virus vaccine from this week. According to Health Secretary Matt Hancock, ‘Oxford University researchers will begin human trials of a potential vaccine on Thursday.’

Health Secretary Matt Hancock also announced £20m funding for the research, saying “in normal times reaching this stage would take years.”

Matt Hancock said. ‘In the long run the best way to beat coronavirus is through a vaccine.UK has put more money than any other country into the global search for a vaccine.’ He also added that UK projects are making rapid progress.

He said that ‘As of yesterday we’ve had 8331 offers of PPE equipment, Not everyone who approaches us can deliver on their offers at scale We’re working with 159 potential UK manufacturers which are starting to come on stream.’

He also said ‘At the heart of our plan is ensuring NHS capacity is always ahead of need, New record high’ spare ICU bed capacity of 2963.’

Matt Hancock said, ‘there was no political decision not to join EU procurement scheme (as FCO boss stated).’ He added ‘The UK HAS joined but so far the scheme hasn’t actually delivered any PPE to members.’
