Center funds for Kumbh, but We don’t take any money for Ganga Sagar Mela, Says Mamta
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee has said that the central government gives a lot of funds for Kumbh Mela. But, Ganga Sagar Mela is not less than Kumbh Mela. We don’t take any money from anyone for infrastructure and development of Ganga Sagar.
Addressing the inauguration of Gangasagar Mela, 2020 at Outram Ghat in the city, Mamta Banerjee said, ‘We are providing insurance cover of Rs 5 lakhs for each individual who visits Ganga Sagar from tomorrow till 17th January.’
Listing the various projects taken up by the West Bengal government for the smooth holding of the Mela, held on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Banerjee said her government has been making consistent efforts to develop the Sagar Island where it is held. The government has already rolled back the pilgrim tax.
