US to suspend immigration into the US amid coronavirus crisis, says Trump

Washington: US President Donald Trump has said that he will sign an executive order to temporarily suspend immigration into the U.S. amid the coronavirus pandemic, a move that is likely to draw legal challenges.
In his tweet on Twitter, US President Donald Trump said, ‘In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!’
According to Associate Press Trump offered no details as to what immigration programs might be affected by the order. The White House did not immediately elaborate on Trump’s tweeted announcement.

Trump’s immigration EO is expected to include exceptions for migrant farmworkers, who make up about a tenth of the workforce on U.S. farms, and health-care workers, particularly those helping treat coronavirus patients. Whereas Critics say the government is using the pandemic to crack down on immigration.
The US has already agreed with both Canada and Mexico to extend border restrictions on non-essential travel until at least mid-May.
