fact check: The life of coronavirus isn’t 12 hours and clapping does not kill the virus

New Delhi: Viral claim suggests coronavirus dies in 12 hours thus, the 14-hour ‘Janta curfew’ will break the cycle of infection. While social distancing is extremely important to flatten the curve, found the viral claim to be false.

PM Modi is encouraging people to stay home between the hours of 7 am and 9 pm on Sunday, as well as doing five minutes of clapping for gratitude during the observances of the curfew. Some took this to mean that the coronavirus only lives for 12 hours, and others suggested that the clapping also kills the virus. Neither claim is true.

Many BJP leaders including TN BJP Chief has tweeted the unscientific theory that Coronavirus cannot survive more than 12-14 hours.
